WORK PACKAGE 7

Research on the possibility of producing, from the obtained rhenium compounds, components used in aviation and defense industry

Rhenium is an essential component of nickel-based superalloys used in the production of aircraft and rocket engine components. Another application of rhenium is the production of tungsten-based heavy sinters (heavy metals) with a potential for use in the defense and aviation industry. Both of these applications are possible thanks to the use of powder metallurgy methods.

Usually, the powder metallurgy process includes the following steps: powder production, cold sinter forming, sintering, post-treatment. In the powder preparation and shaping steps, the powders of the individual components of the final sinter are mixed and pressed. Earlier studies conducted in the Ł-IMN showed that if the alloy powders of various components of the final alloy are directed to these initial stages, the functional properties of the final products are improving.

Therefore, the main goal of this stage will be to develop methods for the production of rhenium alloy powders with other metals, included in the compounds produced in the earlier WPs of the project. Re-Me alloy powders will be components for the manufacture of products used in the aviation and defense industries.
