The aim of this WP 2 will be to research the possibility of the production of perrhenic acid and other rhenium compounds with the use of membrane technique using current-electrodialysis. As a part of the R&D activities, the ion-exchange and bipolar membranes necessary for electrodialysis processes will be selected and prepared.

The influence of the basic parameters (such as temperature, current density, concentration in the individual process streams) on the purity of the obtained perrhenic acid will be investigated. The parameters of the current used in the process will also be controlled. Electricity consumption and current efficiency will be determined.

Additionally, it is planned to carry out experiments with the use of the produced perrhenic acid to obtainother rhenium compounds, e.g. metal salts (Ni, Co, Cu, Li and/or others). The tests will be carried out with the use of an electrodialyzer in a two-stream or three-stream system. The control of the purity of the obtained solutions and compounds will be an important issue to be solved. The result of this stage will be the determination of the
most advantageous parameters of the electrodialysis process for obtaining high purity perrhenic acid and other rhenium compounds.
