Internship October 2-11, 2023
Internship at Łukasiewicz-IMN Center
Between October 2 and October 11, 2023, an internship took place at the Łukasiewicz-IMN, Hydroelectrometallurgy Centre, organized under an agreement with the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM). Young scientists from Bangladesh, Jamaica, Egypt, Fiji and Kenya participated in the internship. As part of the internship, there were lectures every morning, and in the afternoons, thematic laboratories conducted by the employees of the Hydroelectrometallurgy Centre, in the following areas: leaching of materials, including ocean nodules; development of technologies of rhenium and germanium; application of solvent extraction and ion exchange in the recovery of precious metals; application of solvent extraction for the recovery of non-ferrous metals, mainly battery metals; electroprecipitation and electrorefining of copper; recovery of lead from the Zn industry and antimony and bismuth from the Cu industry waste.
As part of the afore-mentioned activities, among others, the results obtained as part of the RenMet project were presented. Two lectures were given in the RenMet project area:
"Development of rhenium technologies" - lecture delivered by dr. Katarzyna Leszczyńska-Sejda;
"Heterogenous catalysts containing rhenium" - lecture delivered by dr. Joanna Malarz.
